Renal Nutrition for Nurses

Successful care of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requires individualized nutrition plans that prevent mineral and bone disorder (MBD), fluid and electrolyte disruptions, and malnutrition. The overall goal of nutrition therapy is to prevent or slow the progression of comorbidities in order to maintain the patient’s quality of life. This course will review the basic components of the renal diet and the health risks associated with dietary nonadherence. The goal of this course is to educate nurses in the acute care setting on the components of the renal diet for patients with ESRD.
